“No Man’s Land”  is a term that grew in importance in the course of WWI.  It identifies a land between parties, which neither party will occupy because of fear or uncertainty.

No Man’s Land in our mind applies from time to time in the stock market when stocks do not have unequivocal support of buyers, nor have either sellers or shorts (investors who borrow shares and sell them high, in the hopes of buying them back lower) together been able to collectively assemble to bring about lower prices.  For chess players, the word “stale-mate” comes to mind.

That’s where we stand with the stock market today = No Man’s Land.  For us, this isn’t a problem as long as prices remain stable and clear INDIVIDUAL growth opportunities present themselves.

Today sellers punished IBM and Texas Instruments as both companies failed to inspire investors concerning gross revenues.  The companies are well run, excellent businesses, but that’s not enough to drive share prices higher.

Buyers however emerged for the broader market to push the market into a positive close.

After the close, Apple Inc. announced earnings that were nothing but excellent.  The stock of Apple Inc. (Ticker: AAPL) advanced +$10/share after the close, but has not picked up further momentum as of yet.  Please review the details of Apple’s earnings here.
