Re-Igniting Your Interest with the Stock Market and Stock Investing
Start investing again…
Are you finding your interest in investing re-igniting? This can happen after seasons in our lives when we have been unable or
uninterested in following the markets.
When you find yourself refocusing on what is taking place in the markets, consider these points –
Pick the S&P 500 as your guide to the overall the condition of the U.S. markets and look at the daily chart of the SPY
(S&P 500 Exchange Traded Fund = ETF). Determine the short, intermediate, and long term trend of the S&P 500 using the SPY.
Using free stock selection web-services like www.Finviz.com, identify stocks that are making new highs, new lows, and the most active on the
days that you are looking. Begin making lists of stocks that you like, from these lists. You can ask yourself these questions when considering
these stocks –
- Are there companies in this list that get my attention and that I would like to research more about?
- Are there companies in this list that I already understand and that are trading at a real discount to actual earnings or anticipated future
earnings that I want to purchase? - Are there companies in this list that I noted in the past would be good purchases if they moved to new 52 week high’s, above certain resistance
lines?
Never feel rushed to make any purchases. Wait and see what the markets and the stocks that interest you do over then next week or so,
before you decide to make a purchase.
Overcome your desire to “purchase-something” by printing out daily stock charts, which span 1 – 2 years of the companies that get your attention,
and analyze these carefully, together with their quarterly earnings results.
Purpose to make a decision or two within a 2 – 4 week period, besides the primary decision to “Wait and See”.
Being successful in the markets requires patience and diligence.
