-Executive Summary-

  • The markets were down, following yesterday’s inability of the markets to hold their gains from the morning.  Overall the markets are simply not certain what to do next, in light of upcoming uncertainty centered on U.S. sovereign debt.   See below.
  • Apple, Inc. shares came within a whisker of all time highs today, moving UP to $361.61/share, before sinking back to close BELOW yesterday’s close.  This may signal some near term weakness in the shares to come.  We will continue to hold our shares, while also noting that it is never a mistake to take profits.
  • OCZ Technologies (OCZ $10.27) moved higher again and looks good.
  • After hours today, Google, Inc. (GOOG $528.94) posted excellent earnings.

– Today’s Highlights –

The market was knocked down a bit again today.  A good visual on this is the fact that there were NO sectors of the market that advanced.

There is simply an over-dose of turbulence in the markets currently – generated primarily by the uncertainty of what the final results will be coming out of our U.S. congress and the hope for REAL progress on reducing deficit spending in exchange for raising the debt ceiling.

While during the trading day, Google, Inc. (Ticker: GOOG $528.94) was down rather firmly, in after hours trading shares of Google have bounced +12.3%, based on their favorable earnings released after the close.  This should have a favorable impact on the market tomorrow.

– Story-Stock Investing –

Shares of SMC “story-stock” OCZ Technology Group (OCZ $10.60) moved nicely higher today.  Those subscribers on board from our comments last week are enjoying a good advance.  We are however cautious with this overall market and observing this one from the sidelines.

More tomorrow.

  • The markets were AGAIN divergent today, just as yesterday revealing further weakness in the technology sector while the broader market (S&P 500) and the DOW (DJ-30) held POSITIVE.
  • Research in Motion (Ticker: RIMM $27.75) reported earnings last night that were a major disappointment.  We go through the details below.  The company received 2 broker upgrades going into earnings.  The stock then lost -21.45% from yesterday’s close into today.  We go through our steps in handling our brief investment in the stock this last week – AND WHY, below.
  • Crude oil continued to descend today, reflecting a drop in value of the U.S. dollar – BUT also  concern of future demand as the global economy slows down.
  • The S&P 500 is finding support at its 200 day exponential moving average.  If the broader market doesn’t find strength here and begins to sink further, the next near point of support is the low it plumbed during the recent nuclear crisis in Japan.  If it fails that point, then the intermediate term trend will be DOWN.
