-Executive Summary-

  • Down!  The markets are responding to minute-to-minute unfolding news concerning the nuclear reactor status in Japan – following last week’s terrible earthquake – as well as to the news of Saudi troops entering Bahrain and further uncertainties in the Middle East.  The markets were down, but could have been significantly worse.
  • We’re keeping an eye out for a bounce possibility in Nvidia (Ticker: NVDA) after relentless selling has taken it down -31% in 2.5 weeks.
  • Growth stock OCZ Technology Group (Ticker: OCZ $8.39) has our attention following excellent earnings and an acquisition today.  OCZ manufactures solid state hard drives for networks.
  • When you can, check out this new Stock Market Companion Video Update – Make Money and Reduce Risk (3 Steps for investing successfully in a turnaround) which we posted on YouTube.  These three steps have made us a lot of money in stock investing over the years.

– Market Perspectives –

For your added perspective, we’ve included this chart of the broader market (Successful stock investors develop and start with a minds-eye view of the broader market and keep it clear) –

– Today’s Highlights –

Today was the first full day of equities trading in Japan following last weeks tragic earthquake.  The Japanese Nikkei Index closed down approx. -6%.  Japan is the world’s third largest economy and millions of people there are currently without power.  There is also strong uncertainty of the status of several nuclear power facilities.

Today, Saudi troops arrived in Bahrain to quench unrest and Mr. Gaddafi continues to fight pro-democracy forces in his country.  Further uncertainty looms in the Middle East.

– Story-Stock Investing –

The U.S. equities markets are showing real resilience to the abrupt change in calm in the world.  We may soon exit our Ford Motor Co. (Ticker: F) investment, although we like how it has held on well so far in the face of uncertainty.  We cannot emphasize enough how unusual it is for us to be in the markets with this single holding that we have in Ford, while two major events with tremendously different, but equally grave outcomes emerge. It doesn’t get much worse than this – possible nuclear disaster in Japan and oil production reductions in the Middle East.

At the same time however, we are on the hunt for some discounted interesting stocks like Nvidia (Ticker: NVDA) after a -31% drop in a short period of time.  Bottom fishing right now as the world responds to minute-by-minute news from Japan has its limitations.  But, if a high volume reversal appears that would give us some confidence on something like NVDA, we’ll take it and let everyone know … pronto.

Silicon Image Inc. (SIMG) held on well today.
