-Executive Summary-

  • Again – The markets moved higher into 52 week high territory in a rally approaching almost 2 years of age.  We are definitely hunting for excellent opportunities, but the pickings have “over-bought” written over many of them.  It is unwise to chase after the market.  Opportunities will reveal themselves, and we will take action.

  • The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Mr. Richard Fisher spoke today at a business association meeting in Dallas. No matter what you think about the purposes of the Federal Reserve, Mr. Fisher presents a fitting and jarring understanding of what lies before us as a nation in order to address a relatively recent heritage of deficit spending and unfunded liabilities.  It isn’t hype or trash talk.  It is very insightful. He doesn’t discourage, but he presents a very clear picture that we feel is a “must read” for all subscribers.  Click on the link above or HERE to open a separate browser window for the entire speech.
Here is one of many nuggets from today’s written speech-
Whereas before we lived in a world of mutually assured destruction, we now live in a world of mutually assured competition. We have no choice but to create the conditions that incent businesses that operate in the United States to compete using American workers. This requires rethinking by Congress―the sole body with the power to shape our nation’s taxes and spending and write regulatory laws to condition economic activity. Our lawmakers must do so in a manner that both stimulates the desire of businesses to put Americans back to work at the earliest opportunity and provides meaningful assurance that long-term fiscal imbalances they have wrought will be brought under control, assuring the long-term viability of the U.S. economy. “

Mr. Fisher has shot a warning shot today across the bow of the “USS Congress” – The Federal Reserve is reaching an end to funding the nations deficit and providing excessive stimulus to this economy.  This will impact our stock market.

– Market Perspectives –

For your added perspective, we’ve included this chart of the broader market (Successful stock investors develop and start with a minds-eye view of the broader market and keep it clear) –

1. SMC SP-500 ETF Daily Chart (Click to open helpful chart in a separate browser window).

– Today’s Highlights –

China ratcheted UP their interest and lending rate to fight inflation… AGAIN.   Volume was again low today.

McDonald’s Inc. (MCD) posted good quarterly earnings, others like Avon Products Inc. (AVP) didn’t.

– Story-Stock Investing –

Here’s a good read about Ireland and their Investment and Development Agency (IDA).  We need a better understanding of what their next government is going to do before we venture too strongly in the Bank of Ireland (IRE) again … or a big buyer to show us that there is something interesting to pay attention to.

GM is paying out approx. $3k/employee in profit sharing for last year.  The stock doesn’t look too appetizing.

Ebay Inc. (EBAY) is pushing a bit higher, but looks stretched – as do most other stocks.
